Confidentiality

Confidentiality Policy

Last Updated: January 2026

At Rikrland Valuation Services, LLC, we take confidentiality very seriously. Protecting client information and assignment results is a core part of our professional obligations and is already required by law and our professional designations.

Our Confidentiality Obligations

We follow the strict confidentiality rules in:

  • USPAP Ethics Rule (Confidentiality Section): We must not disclose confidential information or assignment results to anyone other than the client, persons specifically authorized by the client, state enforcement agencies (via due process), or duly authorized professional peer review committees.
  • Appraisal Institute Code of Professional Ethics: Members must protect confidential information and assignment results, disclosing them only as permitted by the client or law.
  • American Society of Appraisers Code of Ethics: Appraisers must protect the confidential nature of the appraiser-client relationship, the appraisal process, and assignment results.

This means we do not share your appraisal reports, analyses, opinions, conclusions, or confidential information (e.g., property details, financial data, or client communications) with unauthorized parties. We maintain secure files and only retain workfiles for the period required by USPAP (at least 5 years after preparation or 2 years after final disposition of any judicial proceeding).

NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements)

We are willing to sign a client-provided NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) when confidentiality needs go beyond standard USPAP and professional ethics requirements. However, any such request must be made during the quote/request phase — before the engagement contract is signed. This allows us to review the NDA terms and ensure they align with our obligations under USPAP and Alaska law.

In most cases, an NDA is not necessary because confidentiality is already our policy and is mandated by USPAP and our professional organizations (Appraisal Institute and American Society of Appraisers). We treat all client information and assignment results as confidential by default.
